Message from Pastor Avis
I am especially blessed to be serving Zion Lutheran Church. As a "daughter of the congregation", a member for over 50 years, my faith life was formed by that "great cloud of witnesses" who have built and sustained this community of faith from the beginning. It is my hope we will always celebrate what has been, but also celebrate what we yet will become. We worship the God who was, who is and who is to come.
Each year has its promises. In 2012, we continue our one worship service on Sunday mornings at 10 a.m., as well as our Wednesday evening worship at 6:15 p.m. and the Makoshika Park service on Sundays at 8 a.m. in the summer. We are enjoying our families with younger children and our Sunday School continues to thrive. Our choir is a joy at worship and always open to new voices. The church council has been working diligently to make the church more energy efficient and the new windows in the sanctuary are a reality. Another year of joint Vacation Bible School brought 65 children into reach of the Gospel and sharing Lenten Services cements our relationships with the United Methodist Church and Congregational Church in town. We laid 12 of our members to rest in this year. Their companionship with us on this journey of life will be missed. We welcomed in 8 newly baptized and on it goes -- "one season following another, laden with happiness and tears."
We continue to be a congregation that gives generously. Our work with the local Food Bank, our Loaves and Fishes Fund, our Used Furniture Room, Salvation Army and on it goes. Zion has a strong presence in Glendive as being a place where people can find help. Our support of world missions is important as well as Lutheran World Relief projects including quilts and a variety of kits. These are projects in which the whole church is involved.
We have fun together, we pray together, we praise God together, we worship together.
Faith is always in a state of transition. We walk in hope and trust in the Savior who has led the church throughout all time. We pray we are the voice, the heart, and the hands of Christ as we work for the Kingdom of God in this time and in this place. God's blessings.
